Peer Tutoring Program
The Peer Tutoring Program is a service provided to all students by the Center for Learning Excellence to help students improve their academic achievements. The program consists of private sessions which are booked by the student to benefit from an individual, free of charge session with one of our selected tutors. The tutor can help the student with different academic difficulties including explanations of concepts, discussion of books or preparation for exams. The Private Tutoring has the priority of helping students understand their course material and therefore improve their grades.
Types of sessions
Center for learning excellence
Private
The private Peer Tutoring Session is a session where only the student and the tutor meet to help the student with his or her learning difficulties and clarify the concepts for an optimal understanding of the course material.
Private Group
The private group is a group of students which does not exceed two people students with the same learning difficulty around the same course, chapter and concept. The private groups are also efficient for helping a number of students in the same time while each student benefit from the interventions and the questions of the other.
Group
The group tutoring session involves having a peer tutor responsible for one or more sections of a specific class throughout the semester. Those are conducted in a classroom outside of the center.
Certification
Our Peer Tutoring Program is Certified!
The Center for Learning Excellence has been granted a five years certification for both our tutoring and our mentoring services by the CRLA. The College of Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) is an American based organization whose mission is “to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, methods, and information to improve student learning and to facilitate the professional growth of its members.” We are currently the only center in Africa and the Middle East that holds the following stage three certifications: The International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) as well as The International Mentor Training Program Certification (IMTPC). To know that we get to keep this tittle until 2024 is truly a privilege that reflects the hard work of our team and the enormous support of the AUI community.Â
Rule #1
Be on time. Tutoring and mentoring sessions require punctuality as 15 minutes of tardiness is considered an unexcused absence.
Rule #2
A total of two unexcused absences in Tutoring and Mentoring sessions will result in losing access to the CLE services for the semester.
Rule #3
Come prepared! Bring your devices, notebooks, and all the material you will need.
Rules & Regulations
Rule #4
Our tutors are there to help you. It is important to take your tutor seriously and not use any electronic device during the session.
Rule #5
Your tutor is there to help you with explanations and clarifications; they are not supposed to solve your homework or do your assignments.
Rule #6
Respect the duration of the session as other students might also be waiting for the same tutor, or other tutors need the space.
interested in becoming a tutor?
Are you interested in becoming a tutor? Do you want to contribute to the success and academic improvement of other students? We welcome you to apply to out tutoring positions and make part of our CLE family!
Admission process
Every semester, the Center for Learning Excellence welcomes students to fill applications for both tutoring positions.
Our admission process is a two steps procedure where we select the most qualified students to become tutors ensuring high-quality services to other students.
Application FORM
After meeting the basic conditions of credits and CGPA, students are sent an application form where they answer multiple questions about their academic career, their interests and motivations, and their potential success in their tutoring position.
Interview
After filling out the application form, the CLE team examines carefully all the applications received from students to select the most qualified future tutors. The selected candidates are thereafter contacted via email for a short interview organized by members of the CLE team.
Final results
After the interview, and following a long process of deliberation, candidates who have been selected as tutors will receive a congratulatory email from the CLE team. Candidates who have not been selected will also receive an email indicating that they have not been admitted to the center.
